Editorial policy

The Journal of Sign Language Studies (REVLES) is a scientific electronic journal focused on the publication of research articles and academic and professional reflection in the field of sign languages (as known in Spain), also known as sign languages (in the rest of Spanish-speaking countries). It is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal that, from a multidisciplinary perspective, aspires to become an international benchmark in research on and in sign languages.

REVLES is sponsored by the Royal Board on Disability and is coordinated and edited by one of its advisory centers, the Center for Linguistic Normalization of Spanish Sign Language (CNLSE). In this sense, it is the only Spanish scientific journal on sign languages published by a public body. REVLES strives to achieve the highest quality in published manuscripts, applying the evaluation criteria of scientific journals. It also reviews and constantly improves its article selection and evaluation procedures. In this regard, it requests that published articles follow the IMRyD structure (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion) and include a title, abstract, and keywords in Spanish and English, as well as a signed abstract.

REVLES promotes a pluralistic approach both in the topics addressed and in the diversity of authors, reviewers, and audiences. REVLES facilitates the publication of original articles in Spanish Sign Language, Catalan Sign Language, and International Sign Language, in addition to Spanish. All articles are available online and free of charge to the scientific and linguistic community worldwide.
