Research articles submitted for publication in REVLES undergo an anonymous peer review process conducted by specialists external to the journal. The selection and review of articles are governed by strict quality criteria detailed below. With the exception of manuscripts submitted in Reviews, Doctoral Theses, and Current Affairs, the article selection procedure is as follows:
1. Reception of articles: Upon receipt of the manuscript, the REVLES Secretariat sends an acknowledgment of receipt.
2. Anonymity and review: The REVLES Secretariat reviews the manuscript to guarantee its anonymity 3. and ensure impartiality in the evaluation of the papers.
3. Assessment or pre-selection: Two members of the Editorial Team and the Editorial Board assess the manuscript's suitability for the journal's thematic scope and its overall quality. Papers that do not fit the subject matter or do not meet the journal's quality expectations are excluded. The maximum period for rejecting papers is three months.
4. Peer or double-blind review: Articles that pass the pre-selection process are sent to two subject-matter experts for evaluation. These reviewers issue a reasoned report on the scientific quality of the manuscript and its appropriateness or inconsistency for publication. The reviewers have up to two months to submit their reports, following the established evaluation criteria. If the two evaluations are inconsistent, a third evaluation may be requested. The selection of external reviewers is the responsibility of the Editorial Board.
5. Evaluation reports: External evaluation reports are sent to the Secretariat, who acts as rapporteur in the deliberations on the manuscript before the Editorial Board. The Secretariat prepares a reasoned resolution or decision on the publication of the manuscript.
6. Deliberation and final decision: The Editorial Board meets at least once a year, with the attendance of at least half plus one of its members. At these meetings, the Editorial Board deliberates on the resolutions submitted by the Secretariat and makes a final decision based on the external evaluations. 7. Notification of Results: REVLES undertakes to inform the author of the results obtained as soon as possible, along with any comments, suggestions, and observations generated. The content of the results report is confidential and is used solely internally by the journal and the author.
Four types of decisions may be made:
- Approve the manuscript for publication without modifications.
- Propose minor modifications to the author as a condition for publication.
- Propose substantial modifications to the author as a condition for publication.
- Reject publication of the manuscript.
In the event of a conflict, complaint, or disagreement on the part of the author regarding the final result of the evaluation process, the Editorial Board will be responsible for addressing and resolving the case.
If the manuscript is deemed suitable, it will be published when its content is compatible with the timing, editorial guidelines, and topics established by the journal at that time. The estimated timeframe for the final resolution of the evaluation process and notification to the authors is six months from the submission of the most recent version of the article.
If a manuscript is deemed "approved with modifications," the author must promptly address any comments, corrections, or clarifications suggested by the reviewers.
The procedure to be followed after article selection is as follows:
1. The authors will be notified of both the Editorial Board's and the reviewers' decisions via the website or by email. The authors will receive the anonymous external review reports.
2. Authors of manuscripts submitted for review for publication will have two weeks to inform the REVLES Secretariat whether they agree to the changes proposed by the Editorial Board and/or the reviewers, and will agree to submit the revised version and an explanation of the changes within a period not to exceed four weeks.
3. The revised manuscripts will be sent back to the REVLES Secretariat, along with an explanation of the changes made. If any of the proposed changes are rejected, the reasons must be stated.
4. The REVLES Secretariat will send the revised version of the manuscript, the explanation of the changes, and the original manuscript to the reviewers for approval.
5. If the reviewers confirm that the changes made correspond to the request, the manuscript will be considered approved for publication, subject to final approval by the Editorial Board.
